Wow! Thank goodness the holidays are OVER. Every year we say it… and every year we let it happen again. Inactivity plus delicious holiday foods and sweets everywhere and BAM! There’s a good 10 pounds hanging itself on my belly and my hips. I cannot confirm that this is only 10 pounds, shoot… it may be 15 (feels like 15). The battery in my scale is out and right now I’m procrastinating changing it for my own sanity. So there.
Luckily, January 1 began the 18 week countdown to my first marathon. My husband and I are both signed up for and committed to training for our first full marathon in Vancouver B.C. on May 5th.
January 1st was our first 3 mile run. Three days on… a Friday rest day and then a six mile long run on Saturday (today). We are both moving slow, but we are moving. I slept in this morning and when I finally came downstairs, my husband told me he had ALREADY busted out his long run for the day. He was done. Jealous!! I hadn’t event had my cup of Joe yet! But that motivated me to get out there and get my run done, too.
The first mile and a half was hard. But luckily I’ve been here before with training for 1/2 marathons. I reminded myself that sometimes when your body seems to be resisting getting going, somewhere along the way you’ll finally “warm up” and it won’t be as hard. That happened at about mile four today. And for feeling like I’m carrying around an extra 10+ pounds, my run to walk ratio was actually pretty respectable.
I even stopped by my local run shop and picked up this super cute shirt for motivation.
See you out there… and here’s to the next 17 weeks!
